How Girl Scouts Can Earn the Highway to Health Badge

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

Do you belong to the Girl Scouts’ association? If so, you will have to meet certain requirements to earn different badges. Are you interested in earning the Highway to Health badge?

According to the guidelines, the criteria include writing to yourself in regard to your body, taking healthy steps, ceasing to be a sleepy head, being a germ buster, eating on the run, avoiding explosion, relieving your stress, using a mirror, taking care of your teeth and checking out healthy by a doctor. You are required to meet six of these criteria to earn your badge. I will discuss ideas you can use to take good care of your health while shooting for this honor.

First: You need to respect your body. It is essential to put care into what you eat and take pride in getting plenty of exercise.

Second: It is a good idea to maintain your own health journal. You should keep track of everything you eat and drink as well as how much of each food or beverage you consume each day of the week.

Third: You have to do your part to control germs. You can avoid contacting germs by washing your hands regularly; using anti-bacterial liquids before and after using public computers; and continually keeping your body and clothes clean. You can help prevent the spread of germs by coughing onto the back or side of your hands and sneezing into a tissue or your sleeve. It is also a good idea to stay at home if you have a bad cold or flu.

Fourth: Maintaining proper hygiene is important. It is up to you to do everything you have learned in regard to washing up and grooming. I have learned we are supposed to brush our teeth and tongues and then floss once or twice a day.

Fifth: It is important to stay well rested and refreshed. You should always try to get a good night’s sleep. It also helps to take afternoon naps and sit down when you are tired.

Sixth: You should seek help. Ask others for health tips.

Seventh: You must reduce the amount of tension in your life. You should relax as much as you can in addition to avoiding getting mad and taking your frustration out on others.

Eighth: Give self-reflection a try. Take a personal look at yourself to see what you are doing right and wrong.

Ninth: If you are not satisfied with your own opinion, seek a second one. Ask others what they think about the way you handle your health.

Tenth: You should explore. Do research on becoming healthier.

Follow these steps to earn your Highway to Health badge!
