The news coming out of Haiti is very grave. So many citizens are missing or are in need of immediate care. “Our hearts and prayers go out to those suffering at this very difficult time,” said BSA International Commissioner Jim Turley.

There is one small beacon of hope. World Scouting has been in contact with a member of the Scouts and Guides of France who happened to be in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, during this horrific earthquake. “This Scouter reports that our brother and sister Scouts are helping in the relief effort. No one should ever underestimate the power of Scouting! ‘Be Prepared’ are not just words on a piece of paper. Rather, they are a call to action,” explained Turley.

Chattanooga Girl Scout plans to send cookies to Haiti

Wednesday, January 20th, 2010

Girl Scout Gabby Logsdon, 8, has been watching the news with her family nightly. She decided she wanted to do something to help earthquake victims in Haiti.

“She and I talked about what it would be like to have someone help you just because she was a Girl Scout,” says her mother, Stacy Slockbower.

“We’re big in this family on believing that one person can change the world,” says Slockbower.

Gabby will be working towards her goal through the Girl Scout “Gift of Caring.” While order taking, Girl Scouts ask customers if they would like to purchase an additional package of cookies to be donated to the “Gift of Caring” for Haiti earthquake victims.
